SCOTUS Upholds the Constitution

June 26, 2008 10:05 by Dain

The Supreme Court today decided that owning a firearm is a personal right and not a collective right of millitias as many gun control advocates would have you believe.  I guess those pesky commas will get you every time...

Check out all of the info here.

I found it odd many secondAmendment opponents said this particular one only applies to millitias and not the populace despite the fact none of the other Amendments are in question...

Reluctant hero hailed in Lake Jackson

June 16, 2008 07:25 by Dain

A 20 year old US Army medic returns home to a hero's welcome.  She is only the second woman to receive the Silver Star since WWII.

On Saturday, Brown, wearing a burgundy beret and camouflage uniform, thanked those supporting service members still serving in the war, including her brother Justin Brown, who enlisted with her two years ago.

She also thanked the soldiers with her April 25, 2007, when she was part of a four-vehicle convoy, patrolling near the village of Jani Khel when the bomb blast occurred at dusk.

Brown, attached to the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 82nd Airborne, managed to get to the injured soldiers, who were thrown or stumbled from the burning vehicle. She hovered over one wounded soldier as mortar rounds landed nearby. The soldiers were removed to safety and survived their wounds.

Democrats Promised to Change Congress and Prevent Earmarks...Earmarks Return

June 13, 2008 13:40 by Dain

Looks like a the Leopard can't change it's spots.  Dems promised to end the culture of corruption and end all of the earmarks and frivolous spending in Congress.  Not likely people said.

The WaPo has some an interesting article showing the pork barrel spending is in fact going up.  Here are some damning snippets

Requests include $204,000 for an infantry platoon battle course from Sens. Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, both Arkansas Democrats; $2.2 million for nanofluids for advanced military mobility from Rep. Geoff Davis (R-Ky); $98 million for a Northrop Grumman project to develop an aircraft sensor suite, from Sens. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Mel Martinez (R-Fla.).

Chambliss was a part of another bipartisan group of lawmakers who also requested allocating $497 million to United Technologies, Lockheed Martin and Pratt & Whitney for "advanced procurement or line close down costs," the watchdog group's data show.

Funding for an indoor small-arms range in Connecticut? It's in there too, at $11 million, care of Sens. Lieberman and Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.) So is $10 million for school-age services on a military base in Kentucky.

Tens of millions of dollars more are directed at lawmakers' state universities, sometimes for research of metals, composites and other technology. That includes $2.5 million for development of three-dimensional integrated circuit research at Boise State University and $3 million for "superstructural particle evaluation" at East Carolina University.

People elected this crop of losers in for "change" and they promised to do what's best for the people.  The only thing they've managed to do is prevent us from drilling in ANWR to help lower fuel costs. I swear, the most 535 worthless people in the US...

Gas Prices Doubled in a Year

June 9, 2008 13:49 by Dain

According to this story from Yahoo! News, G8 energy ministers looked for solutions to the record prices.  They finally came to the conclusion most of us already knew.  They were touting the need for domestic efficiency and non-reliance on OPEC.  Really, it takes you guys that long to figure that out?

I for one will not be driving my WRX anymore.  I can't afford the 56-77 dollar fill ups anymore.   What have other people done due to the gas prices?  Has the current fuel costs curbed your spending?

It's Official...I Hate People

June 5, 2008 13:15 by Dain

I have come to the official position of hater today.  For the past couple of days there has been bad weather here in the DC area.  That means people's IQ's drop sharply when they get behind the wheel of their automobile.    There are a lot of traffic lights that are not functioning right now.  In fact all of Arlington seemed to be down.  Well, it's carried over to today and it's still pandemonium on the roads.  What get's me angry is people should know what to do when they come to an intersection and the lights are out.  People here do not seem to comprehend the correct procedure on what they're supposed to be doing and drive through in some haphazard fashion....

I can honestly say I've spent at least one full workday in the car the past two days.

I had a 15 minute errand to do at lunch today and it turned into an hour, to go 1.5 miles.

To top it off I got back to work and started to eat my lunch and came across this gem:

Sorry to start off on a negative spiel, but I couldn't help it.
